How Free:Desk works
Free:Desk is two things at once. A guide to the places in Toronto people actually work well from, and a way to request places you want Free:Desk to approach. Toronto is the live launch market; public reservations appear only after an approved partner enables real availability. No membership, no monthly fee.
Remote workers, founders, freelancers, creators, consultants, travellers — and students working through coursework, group projects, online classes or interviews. Same questions, same answers.
Cafés, bars and restaurants the community has mapped and rated. Free:Desk has no agreement with them, so you turn up as a normal customer. What you see is what people reported: wifi, noise, outlets, how long they stayed.
Venues that have signed up with Free:Desk, set their working hours and told us exactly which areas, tables and seats they will hold. You book one, and it’s yours when you arrive.
You can, and often should — that’s what the discovery half of Free:Desk is for. It stops being enough when the call is at 2pm, the table matters, and there is no version of the day where you circle the block looking for an outlet.

What you pay becomes something you drink or eat.
Venue credit
What you pay becomes venue credit at that venue. Your venue credit can be used toward eligible food or drinks during your visit — coffee, lunch, whatever you were going to order anyway. It is not a refund and it is not cash back.
A small number of seats are marked premium — a window, a bigger table, a quieter corner — and that is the only thing that can add to the total. You see it before you commit.
No membership. No monthly fee. No Free service fee. You only pay when you book, and the number you see on the booking page is the number you pay.

Every mapped place can collect one request per person. We use recorded requests and stated needs to prioritise outreach. No number automatically activates a place: it becomes bookable only after the venue agrees and enables real availability.

Only once they’ve signed up and set their seats. Never before.
Not reviews. A Work Check asks what actually matters when you’re working: did you get a seat, was the wifi usable, could you take a call, how long did you stay. It takes about a minute and earns you Free:Points — whether the answer is good or bad.
One account across every city. It carries your bookings, saved places, votes, Work Checks and how you like to work — so a place in a city you’ve never visited still knows to show you the quiet corner with an outlet.
